PROCESS

The Service

Little Locals is a service that is sold to farmers

markets that sets up booths with activities for kids.

The kids play and use an interactive camera to

learn about where their food comes from, how food

affects their bodies and emotions, and how

ingredients make a meal.

User Testing with Children

Conducted play testing at the Cincinnati Children's Library

with kids ranging from 2 to 11 years old. During testing,

I found that the younger children struggled to put the

smaller pieces together and understand the intent of

the puzzle.

Progress

Revised the puzzle's design to have bigger abstract pieces

and brighter colors. Redesigned the instructions to be more

engaging with specific directions to help kids assemble

the puzzle from start to finish. Added an illustration of the

final meal to connect the theme of the puzzle to a real

life meal.

Final Thoughts

This collection of three meal-themed puzzles offers young learners a

fun and engaging way to build essential early skills. By sorting pieces
based on color and shape, children strengthen their visual discrimination
and problem-solving abilities, while learning to follow step-by-step
directions builds confidence and focus. Together, these puzzles create
a well-rounded learning experience that blends cognitive development
with creativity.
